Pre-Production

The Location for my short film is going to be set in my house, mainly in my bedroom. It's going to be set up with posters, clothes on the floor, a typical messy teenagers bedroom but its also going to have quite a dark feel to it. It is also going to be set outside in the alleyway outside my house which I am going to film during night so it will have the dark, eery feel.
The actress I am using for the central protagonist is an 18 year old girl, she has the pale skin, dark hair look that I wanted, almost linking into an 'emo' stereotype but I am going to use somebody else for the smoking scene, im just going to film their hand and the smoke coming out of their mouth but im going to make sure they have the same nail polish, bracelets on etc. Similar to the emo girl in St Trinians and the girl in Mean Girls.

I am going to use my own sister to play the sister in the film as she looks younger than the protagonist and also has dark brown hair so it is easier to signify that they are related.

I am going to be using my family for the family scene as there is no speaking roles for them and i will also be using two more teenage girls the age 17/18 for the scene in the alley way were they will be whispering things in her ear, signifying that they were the girls that caused her so much torment and abuse.
Costume wise it is fairly easy, the central protagonist will be wearing jeans and a t-shirt and docs or trainers; typical, simple teenage clothing.

I am going to be using many props, talcon powder to look like coke, lots of empty and half-full bottles of alcohol to help identify her path of self-destruction. I will also be using fake blood to help create the look that she has been self-harming.

Throughout the film it is mostly going to be a monologue, the voice of the girl in the present day, being careful to not give anything away that she is dead until the end, so she cannot speak alot in the past tense, avoiding words such as 'was'. There is going to be non-diegetic music in the alleyway scene, it will grow louder and is going to fit into the mood of the scene and reflect the protagonists fear and emotions. The music will stop abruptly at the end of that particular scene.

Editing wise, it is not going to all be continuous as there are flashbacks of her when she was alive. It is going to jump occasionally from one scene to the next, leaving abit of a narrative enigma, as she is a ghost things do not make that much sense to her, so it could help represent her confusion.

  1. some good detail, but you need to get into the spirit of blogging more - it is a visual medium, and your posts should be well illustrated, especially one outlining your idea - which should also be supported with plentiful references to existing media texts
